The 2022 horse racing season will start this Sunday, June 5th. The Horse Racing Division, in a press release, issued this Wednesday, June 1, 2022, wishes to point out that from now on the “stake money” will be distributed to all couriers taking part in a race. The People’s Turf Club PLC will organize this first raceday. The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) confirmed that the People’s Turf PLC completed all the formalities for the organization of horse races, this Wednesday. As for the MTCSL, we learn that its representatives met with those of the GRA. But there are still some details to be accomplished in order to administer horse racing. As a reminder, MTC Sports and Leisure Ltd and People’s Turf PLC obtained a sublease contract to manage the Champ de Mars yesterday.
The Horse Racing Division (HRD) will take the entries with the trainers on Thursday morning. The line draw is scheduled for Friday, June 3. People’s Turf PLC has also given the amount of stakes money it will pay for the first day. A novelty: owners of non-placed horses will obtain a sum of Rs 10,000.
It is worth noting that People’s Turf PLC Ltd will not use any of the MTC-MTCSL infrastructure for its baptism of fire. Let’s wish the People’s Turf PLC team, all the trainers and jockeys good luck. Let’s hope that races will be as clean as all stakeholders are claiming it will be. We are very perplexed when there are so many conflicts of interests at all levels.
