THE MTC PRESIDENT MR JM GIRAUD RESIGNS – RACES ON IN ONE OR TWO WEEKS

The news just fell, Mr JM Giraud the President of the MTC has resigned this morning.

From our sources this was one of the condition from the PMO / GRA who said that he must go so that the MTC /MTCSL gets their 2022 license and races starts.

A wise decision from the exiting president so that the most favourite sport in Mauritius can start. As of now the MTC as no president and the General Manager of MTC and Acting CEO of MTCSL is Mr Jérôme Pilot.

Our sources are saying that the MTCSL should get their license latest by next week and races should start on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th May. A full weekend two days race meeting which all Mauritians will welcome after one false start and one month of legal battle for their license and then racetrack. Once the MTCSL gets their license they will apply for the racetrack of the Champ De Mars.

What new conditions are awaiting them?

A reduced lease term most probably.

Anyhow, as long as races starts so that all parties, the MTC/MTCSL, GRA/HRD, the Bookmakers, Trainer, Owners, Grooms and the fans are fixed.

A huge breath of fresh for all horse racing stakeholders and fans who all cannot wait for this horse racing season to start.

We will confirm who becomes the new president when the board meets next. It should happen after their licensing and racetrack lease is back in their hands for how long?

That is the question.

Is this the last horse racing season under the leadership of the MTC/MTCSL?

Most probably, let’s wait and see.
